VerifiedGreetings, this is Dr. G. I’m board-certified with 17 years experience. I am well-versed in bariatric medicine and usually a ruex en y gastric bypass is an intervention treatment for a very severe gerd. Although in fairness we do see quite often what are referred to as marginal ulcers, this is where the anastomosis between the small intestine and the stomach is now present where the actual surgery moved the small intestine to connect with the stomach. My suspicion is if you were having persistent pain that in any way feels burning or increased pressure that is the most likely caused. Marginal ulcers are the most common complication of this type of gastric bypass. Hernias generally speaking or not hidden by a CT scan it would be much more likely that you would be having a problem with a marginal ulcer at the Anastomotic site of surgery.
Those are certainly very reasonable options. The Nexium as you know is very similar to the Prolosec or protonic’s. It may be Worth consideration to add some Pepcid to your regimen to see if you get any additional improvement. If you were to see some improvement then that would be a better indication for an ulcer and if you don’t then they would point more towards the diverticulum being an issue. Just a thought
