What is the best method to stop taking the medicine Metoprolol?
JA: The Doctor can help. Just a couple quick questions before I transfer you. How long have you been using Metoprolol? Has it helped at all?
Customer: A few weeks and yes it did work well initially but lately I am not tolerating it as well as Amlodipine..
JA: Have you seen a doctor about this?
Customer: I’m a Veteran and my primary doctor first prescribed Amlodipine. I was given Metoprolol when I went to Baptist Hospital Emergency with chest pains.
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the Doctor should know?
Customer: No. I read instructions on Metoprolol and understand that you should not stop taking medication but rather stop taking it gradually. I just would like to know the best way to stop gradually.

Hello. I'm Dr Chip
What's your dosage of the metoprolol?

Customer: replied 2 days ago.
First dosage was Succinate Er 24hr 25 Mg Tab and the second was Tartrate 50MG Tab

Sorry--I'm not clear about how much you've been taking?

Customer: replied 2 days ago.
I sent response to your

Yes but how much of each per day?

Customer: replied 2 days ago.
I am currently only taking the second one half tablet twice a day but for the past 2 days I have only taken half tablet once a day.

Thanks

Then I'd suggest the following--

Half a tablet every other day for the next four days and then stop

That will prevent any withdrawal problems

Please let me know if you need any more information
