Since November my 6yo son has had a swollen lymph node. It measures an inch in size. PCP gave antibiotics for sinus infection. It seemed to get smaller. She ordered CBC, LDH, EST and CRP tests. All came back normal. He has no other symptoms besides getting another cold, earache or sniffles every month. He has a followup with an ENT in a couple of weeks. I am mostly concerned with what I read about the size. How much relief can I get from those normal blood tests?
JA: When did your son start using the antibiotics? How severe were any side effects?
Customer: Started Jan 25th for 10 days. Augmentin I think.
JA: How long has he been dealing with the earache? Is this a repeating or first-time issue?
Customer: He had the earache approx Jan 3rd. It only lasted a day.
JA: Anything else in his medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: No. Overall he is energetic and appetite is good. Just has tough luck with colds. Seems like he get one once a month. Nothing too severe.
In mid November he had a pretty high fever for a few days. We took him to the ER. They said it was viral. They did note his lymph nodes were pretty big then. He was fine after that. His other nodes did go down after that.

Where is the lymph node exactly?

Is it increasing in size? Is there any new node?

Thank you for your patience.

Thank you for waiting.
I am very sorry for his symptoms.
I understand your concern.
Lymph node usually gets enlarged from an infection or inflammation.
It can take time to subside after the original infection has subsided.
Enlargement of one node at this location is not significant.
His blood works are normal too.
Please do not worry.
I hope this information will be helpful.

Should those crp, est and ldh tests relieve me from worrying about leukemia, lymphoma and other cancers?

Yes, you should get relieved from those tests.

In lymphoma more nodes will appear in different areas.

Leukemia will also be reflected in blood counts.

ok. 1 more question... is a 1 inch diameter anything out of the ordinary?

In infection, it can get large.

It is not significant.
