I can understand your problem & your discomfort.
As of now I advise you to take mucinex cough syrup. Also use liquid diphenhydramine as described above. Gargling with lukewarm water with salt is one of the best remedy.
If still after this the symptoms persists then you need to go for re-examination by your doctor and accordingly you may need Throat culture exam and other test.
So bottom-line is I advise to take the above described treatments and wait for couple of days. This should subside.
