Hello again,
I was waiting for your reply.
I am very sorry for his symptoms.
Poison oak rash can last for 1-3 weeks.
In some cases it can continue for more than a month too.
Usually it goes away by its own within 10-20 days.
You can apply cool compress.
Antihistamine like benadryl or Claritin can be taken for itching.
Motrin or Advil can be taken for pain.
In some cases, steroid can be needed for rapid improvement or if the symptoms are severe.
ER visit is usually required when the rash affects face, genitals or a large part of body.
It can be needed if there is breathing or swallowing difficulty.
Otherwise he can see his regular doctor in the morning.
I hope this information will be helpful.
If you have any query, please feel free to ask.
Your satisfaction is my goal.
If you are happy with my answer please click on 5 star rating so that I can get the credit for helping you.
Wish him healthy life.
Regards.

Thank you to the Physician who answered my question today. The answer was far more informative than what I got from the Physicians I saw in person for my problem.

You have been more help than you know. I seriously don't know what my sisters situation would be today if you had not gone above and beyond just answering my questions.
