Customer Question
After having a pacemaker...

After having a pacemaker implanted on Feb. 7, 2018 my blood pressure runs normal Except my pulse rate runs in the 90 to 100 range. I TAKE METROPOL 50 MG TWICE A DAY. IS THIS EFFECTING MY KIDNEYS?

Doctor's Assistant: What medications do you take daily? Are you allergic to any medications?

No. I take Nifedipine 60 mg, Lovaststin40mg, Losartan 100mg, Clopidogrel 75 mg and Tamsulosin Hcl 0.4 mg.

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

I am diabetic and I take Metformin and Gliburide.

Hello, my name is***** and I am an internal medicine doctor. I would like to assist with your health concern.

May I ask, why was the pacemaker inserted?

Are you having any symptoms related to the pacemaker beating at 90-100 - any palpitations, shortness of breath, chest pain?

When is your next pacemaker check scheduled for?
I will await your response.

Please ignore any automated phone call requests as this is automatically generated by the website, thanks.

I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CONJESTIVE HEART FAILURE. NO I AM NOT HAVING PALPITATIONS SHORTNESS OF BREATH OR CHEST PAIN.

Thank you so much for you response. It is good that you are not having any symptoms at all.

You need not worry about your paced heart rate to be affecting your kidneys.

At your next pacemaker check, it is good to ask what kind of pacemaker you have. There are two kinds of pacemakers:

A demand pacemaker monitors your heart rhythm. It only sends electrical pulses to your heart if your heart is beating too slow or if it misses a beat.

A rate-responsive pacemaker will speed up or slow down your heart rate depending on how active you are.

You most likely have the rate-responsive pacemaker.

This should keep your heart rate below 100 beats per minute which is acceptable.

Your doctor will continue to monitor your blood work but this should not affect your kidney function.

I am available for any follow up questions that you may have, thank you.
