Hi, I'm Dr Jennifer and I'm a surgery fellow.

Cr is a marker we use for kidney function, but it's not perfect. For example, it's elevated in people with more muscle mass without any kidney dysfunction because it's a breakdown product of muscle.

Do you have any previous lab results? If it's been the same for years, I would not worry, but if it was 0.5 last year, then I would speak to your doctor about getting more tests to look for kidney disease.

The only previous lab results I have are in 2015when I had he kidney stones and was dehydrated. The creatinine at that time was 1.26

I do high intensity exercises as well

OK. 1.1 is a little higher than I would expect for a woman of your age and health, but if you have a high muscle mass, that may partially explain it. There are also variations in race; 0.9 is the norm for all American women, but it's 1.0 for black women. I'm reassured by the fact that it's lower than it was in the past.

If your repeat Cr is similar, then I think we can call that your baseline and if in the future you see any increase, then I would seek further investigations.

Ask Your Own Medical Question

If the number is ***** you nervous, the first examinations that are usually done are an ultrasound of the kidneys to make sure there's not an anatomic problem (polycystic disease, for example) and examination of your urine, both chemically and under a microscope. Neither is very invasive nor very expensive (though collecting your urine for 24 hours can be a little gross), so your primary care doctor would probably be willing to order them for you. Sometimes it's worth it to set your mind at ease!

Does that answer your question? Let me know if I can clarify anything. If you're satisfied with my service, please consider giving me a 5 star rating!

that does answer my question, I had the labs redrawn yesterday so we will see if anything is different. Those labs were also drawn right after I went to the gym so I may have been a little dehydrated.
Thank you

You're welcome!
