My husband has had a headache for 5 weeks. We have tryed ever migraine medicine and steroids. We have had ct scans they were clear yesterday he has a lumbar puncture. Nothing is helping him he does not sleep for long periods of time cause the pain wakes him up I don’t no what to do for him some relief. We are seeing a neurologist but no answers yet

Doctor's Assistant: How long has your husband been using steroids? Has it helped at all?

They gave him some for a couple days and did nothing and Saturday they gave him some thru IV.

Doctor's Assistant: Has he used anything besides steroids for this?

They have gave him all kinds of migraine meds and kind of them have even touched it

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in his medical history you think the doctor should know?

No not that we no of. They did give him a mixture at hospital when I had to take him on Saturday cause of the pain and he had a nose bleed and it scared us they gave him a steroid, Benadryl and reglan and the pain when to a 3 he said that’s the least pain he has had in 5 weeks and then the next day pain back to a 7 or 8

Very sorry to know about that . Please can you mention which migraine medications he has already tried?

he has had steroids

Well these are usually very effective medications for migraine . Unfortunately as none helped so we should look into other options . These include anti epileptic medications like valproate, carbamazepine , lamotrigine etc . Preventing the migraine attack with the help of beta blockers like propanolol or calcium channel blockers like verapamil should also be considered.

Supplements like riboflavin usually help .

Alongwith these medications complementary or alternative medicine options like accupunture may also be tried.

Migraine which is resistant to treatment should be tackled with a combination of drugs rather then single drug.

Imatrex and migranal are effective in acute attack and do not as such prevent the new / fresh migraine attack.

So you may discuss these options with your doctor.

Hope he feels better soon.
