How to ease scar tissue pain?

Doctor’s Answer: Scar tissue is a fibrous tissue which has less blood supply and less elasticity than the normal tissue. Thus, there can be:

1) Inflammation which is due to overstretching.

2) Infection as it is prone due to less blood supply.

Following measures may help:

1) application of sprayed vapocoolant or lidocaine cream

2) physical therapy

3) deep electrotherapy; iontophoresis, phonophoresis, short wave diathermy, electrical stimulation

4) local analgesic patch / ointment / spray

5) anti-inflammatory analgesics; Ibuprofen (Motrin / Advil)

6) ischemic compression therapy; pressure on the points

7) massage

8) steroid shots

9) acupuncture

Doctor: Dr. Arun Phophalia, Doctor replied 3 months ago

An abdominal binder would help preventing the recurrence.

Scan become painful because of their inelasticity and propensity to get injured and strained easily. Pain is common in scars.
