I have Marfan Syndrome...

I have Marfan Syndrome, I’m female & 65yo...I have large “Tarlov Cysts” & quite frequently when my lower back is very painful, I have massive instant severe Headache when going from sitting to standing! Also feel extremely dizzy, faint & nauseous, have had tests (x-ray scans MRI) but haven’t been given a diagnosis so far....do you have any thoughts on this....Regards Sharon

Doctor's Assistant: Is the headache episodic or daily? And what about nausea?

Episodic, maybe 3/4 times month lasting several days

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

Not really, had all surgeries related to Marfans, 2 open heart surgeries, joint surgery, eyes, etc

when going from sitting to standing quickly, you can drop your blood pressure and CSF pressure very quickly and this drop of pressure to the brain can cause severe dizziness, feeling faint and nausea in some patients.

how long does this last for? usually going from sitting to standing, your autonomic nervous system automatically increases your heart rate and blood pressure to try to compensate and sometimes it can take a few seconds or a few minutes for your blood pressure to become proper again.

Thanks Dr David, my GP said something along same lines...postural hypotension.
Doctor: Dr. David, Board Certified Physician replied 1 month ago

yes, postural hypotention when you stand up too quickly

which drops your blood pressure if you don't give your body time to adjust blood pressure

Dr David, I do take my time. Going from sitting to standing slowly but doesn’t make any difference! These episodes last for several minutes & will happen continuously for 2/3 days & then won’t happen again for few weeks!
The episodes only happen when I have lot of bad lower back pain...which my Dr says, doesn’t really make sense! Anyway just thought I would get another viewpoint...Regards Sharon

lower back pain can cause blood pressure sometimes to be too high or to be too low.
