I have an abdominal...

I have an abdominal aortic aneurysm of 4.2 and have been put on diltiazem. Is this a problem?

Doctor's Assistant: Have you seen a doctor about this yet? What medications are you taking?

It’s a long list: Xanax atenolol Lipitor protonix zoloft valporic acid gabapentin nucynta and zofran

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

Not really, just concerned that the diltiazem widens blood vessels. Will it effect my aneurysm?

Doctor's Assistant: Do you know if your family has a history of heart disease? In general, how would you describe your health lately?

No family history of heart issues. Otherwise i’m In good shape at 75.

Diltiazem would not cause any problem to aneurysm, which is a age related change in the blood vessel.
Abdominal aortic aneurysm are reviewed every 6 months to one year. The need of surgery would be determined by;

1) Progression of the size; if there is increase of more than one cm per year, it may require surgery.

2) Size more than 5.5 to 6 cm would also require surgery.

Please feel free for your follow up questions.

I would be happy to assist you further, if you need any more information.

Thanks for using Just Answer.
