Hi David. The facets are the joints of the neck (i.e. where the vertebrae touch and lean on each other). They are susceptible over time to arthritic changes. One form of arthritis is "proliferative arthritis" which means the body lays down extra calcium to try to strengthen the area. This extra calcium can make the facet joints bulky. Sometimes this bulkiness presses on adjacent nerves causing pain, tingling or weakness.
