Customer Question

Hi. My friend got body-wide paresthesia after potentially being orally poisoned by some kind of chemical. Do u think that is possible?
JA: What are all the symptoms you're experiencing (e.g. loss of appetite, fever, rash)?
Customer: 1. body-wide skin surface numbness
JA: How long have you been dealing with the skin issue? Have you noticed any major changes in your overall skin or nails recently?
Customer: the skin issue came on to my friend about 3 weeks ago; it was all over, but recently she's started getting sensation back on her tummy; she has noticed a red-like rash on her ankles and feet that appeared with the numbness
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: celiac, and very gluten intolerant; rarely sleeps more than 4-5 hours, and too much alcohol consumption; however, even with these long-term past and present issues the body-wide skin numbness (along with deeper - meisner corpuscle? - pain upon touch) only appeared about 3 weeks ago, and that very suddenly; literally overnight!

This may be acute neuropathy.

She may be investigated by following;

Blood count, ESR

Blood sugar

Liver and renal function tests

Serum vitamin B12

Paraprotein levels

Thyroid function tests

Vasculitis profile.

Electromyography

Nerve conduction velocity study.

She may require skin biopsy too for the evaluation.

Nerve conduction studies categorize neuropathy according to distribution (mono neuropathy, mononeuropathy multiplex or generalized), axonal vs demyelinating and small vs large fiber neuropathy.

Guillain Barre syndrome should be ruled out for her.

I would be happy to assist you further, if you need any more information.
