Guaifenesin max dose at a time is 400 mg and not more than 2400 mg in a day should be exceeded. It is the only OTC expectorant.
Steam inhalation is one of the best way to loosen expectoration. You can also try menthol steam inhalation.
Add Menthol salts (available OTC) to a bowl of steaming water and inhale the steam two - three times daily - this will relieve the congestion.
Following too may help you;
1) Deep breathing exercises
2) Probiotics
3) Mix of warm lemon water with honey; this is considered mucolytic and thus is an expectorant..
4) Ginger tea.
