"OVERLYING BOWEL GAS", is this a statement from your ultrasound report?

i also do alot of burping and passing alot of gas, so what do you think my problem is????
Doctor: Dr. Sohaib, Doctor replied 8 months ago

Thank you very much.

When the radiologist wants to see a particular organ in the abdomen through an ultrasound scan, some times he is not able to completely or effectively visualize some organs which lie behind the intestine (bowel). This happens due to presence of air/gas in the bowel which obscures the image.

If OGD and biopsy was normal, I would think of malabsorption syndrome that could be giving you too much gases and indigestion.

There are many syndromes which can be causing this, such as coeliac disease, bacterial overgrowth in the intestine, lactose intolerance.

Many of these can be detected by specialized breath tests; you can check your doctor for this. Preferably a Gastroenterologist.

Usually for such complaints the diagnostic plan is extensive because of complex organs association involved in handling and digestion of food.

I think your doctor is going stepwise, which seems an appropriate strategy, to rule out the commonest causes first.

Ultrasound, followed by endoscopy, followed by further tests as I mentioned.
