Hi,

Welcome to JA and thanks for this question. I'm sorry to hear about your symptoms. I'm Sorry to hear about your symptoms. If these are muscle sprains or strains or spasms then ideally you should be hydrating as much as possible which means that you should completely cut out caffeine and alcohol from your diet and start using PLAIN WATER along with electrolyte-rich fluids like Gatorade or Pedialyte. These help significantly in restoring the water and electrolyte balance in the body which in turn would reduce the intensity and frequency of the spasms. Secondly, if this pain is due to high uric acid (the gout that you mentioned) then you should be avoiding high purine-containing foods which include,

  • Alcoholic beverages (all types)
  • Some fish, seafood, and shellfish, including anchovies, sardines, herring, mussels, codfish, scallops, trout, and haddock
  • Some meats, such as bacon, turkey, veal, venison and organ meats like liver
  • Meats, such as beef, chicken, duck, pork, and ham
  • Shellfish, such as crab, lobster, oysters and shrimp

You can, however, use the following,

  • asparagus, spinach, peas, cauliflower or mushrooms. You can also eat beans or lentils.
  • Whole-grain, unsweetened cereal with skim or low-fat milk
  • Fresh strawberries
  • Roasted salmon
  • Roasted or steamed green beans
  • Roasted chicken breast slices
  • Mixed green salad with balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing
  • Whole grain bread
  • whole grain pasta

I would advise limiting the intake of tart cherry juice. Additionally, regarding the pain in the foot, you should also get this evaluated for possible plantar fascitis which is a condition in which there is inflammation of the soft tissue in the sole of the feet. This can cause this sort of severe pain and would be managed with the help of orthotics, sound wave therapy, steroid injections among other modalities.
