Can a steroid injection help with bone marrow oedema in the tibia?

Doctor's Assistant: Have you seen a doctor about this yet? What medications are you taking?

I have only had the MRI showing prominent bone oedema and are on no treatment

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

No just hypothyroid I think this was caused by a trail run I did

Bone edema is usually a concern for stress fracture but you are saying that the edema was in the marrow? Do you happen to have an MRI report of this?

Ask Your Own Medical Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
I do have it attaching it now.
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
Did you receive the MRI?

How long before I receive a reply please?
Doctor: Dr. Mo, Board Certified MD replied 8 months ago

Sorry for the late reply but I received the MRI.

As I suspected, it shows the beginning of a stress fracture.

So it wouldn't be wise to run on it until the pain resolves.
Running is the most common cause of this sort of reaction as seen on your MRI.

Is there any treatment I can take for this?
Doctor: Dr. Mo, Board Certified MD replied 8 months ago

No, stress fractures are repetitive injury events and staying off of it is all you can do.

Steroids would actually impede healing.

my daughter is 28 yrs old for the last 6-8 yrs she has been having joint pain, muscle pain to the point now that she has continuous pain , her crp levels have been elevated and her cpk levels will elevated then return to normal with oral steroids, she will have a rash when this happens, she had a mri of hip in June that showed inflammation that suggested myositis, we just did a repeat mri which is still showing edema in the gluteus medium muscle, but it also stated bone marrow signal in the femoral diaphyses is mildly heterogeneous, the rheumatologist she is seeing did not mention that I seen it on the results that was posted to her portal, I was concerned with the wording of the bone marrow signal in the report, is that something we should follow up on? we are trying desperately to figure out what is causing her such pain and the elevated crp levels and cpk levels, we've done a 2nd opinion with rheumatology with no diagnosis … read more
