Is it dangerous to accidentally take 2 40 mg Pravastatin?

Doctor's Assistant: What medications do you take daily? Are you allergic to any medications?

No I take that and 12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide, I actually didn't take 2 yet, but I can't remember if I took it all, so I was just checking in case I already took one, but I can't remember

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

No Oh I didn't know this costs anything

Hi,

Welcome to JA and thanks for this question. Im sorry to hear about your situation. Actually the maximum dose of pravastatin is 80 mg a day which means that you can SAFELY take up to 80 mg of the drug a day and not develop any serious side effects. However that being said some patients experience side effects which can be uncomfortable BUT NOT dangerous. You may experience muscle aches or bodyaches, along with mild muscle tenderness or fatigue.

But i would suggest that you DONT take another dose, it is better to miss a single dose of pravastatin (which will NOT place you at any risk) rather than use a higher dose even though it is less likely to be toxic. I think it is better to avoid any side effects which can occur and cause you difficulty.
