I have recently been diagnosed with bronchiectasis can I drink alcohol moderatey or should I stop

Doctor's Assistant: What are all the symptoms you're experiencing (e.g. loss of appetite, fever, rash)?

No loss of appetite or rash or fever. I am just trying to really eliminate the cough if possible

Doctor's Assistant: How long have you been dealing with the cough? Are you having any other symptoms?

I got this infection in August of 2017 and have been to several Dr.'s taken lots of antibiootics some have helped but I still have a fairly frequent cough

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

Not that I can think of. I contracted some infection in August and have been treating it ever since over4 months. the medication has made me feel better and gain strength however I still cough although much less phlem is produced.

You may drink not more than 60 ml alcohol per day. You may also get a sputum culture and a blood culture to get the best antibiotic to resolve the cough and phlegm.

The treatment of bronchiectasis usually is;

1) Antibiotics and chest physiotherapy are the mainstays.

Usual antibiotics are (when infection supervenes or suspected):

a) Amoxicillin

b) Tetracycline

c) Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole

d) Azithromycin or Clarithromycin

2) Bronchodilators

3) Corticosteroid therapy

4) Diet supplements.

Following measures also are recommended

1) Stop smoking.

2) Avoid second-hand smoke

3) Nutritional supplementation

4) Immunizations for influenza and pneumococcal pneumonia, and measles, rubeola, and pertussis.

Please feel free for your follow up questions.

I would be happy to assist you further, if you need any more information.

Thanks for using Just Answer.

Thank you to the Physician who answered my question today. The answer was far more informative than what I got from the Physicians I saw in person for my problem.
