Customer Question
I had my tubes...

I had my tubes tied three years ago but my periods are debilitating. SUper heavy flow for up to 10 days. Is there anything a gynecologist can do to help me lessen the flow? I'm also very anemic, so the heavy flows wipe me out completely, month after month.

Doctor's Assistant: Are you in any pain? How regular are your periods?

The cramping/pain is pretty severe for the first few days of each cycle. I get periods monthly but it seems like they are just getting heavier and longer with each month that passes.

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

Not in particular

It depends on what the cause is, have you had any testing

No I have not been to the gynecologist since I had my tubes tied three years ago. I'm just wondering if there are options to lessen or even stop the flow? I had mirena in between my three pregnancies and lost my period all together during those times. WOuld they ever alllow me to get that again even though my tubes are tied?
Doctor: DrRussMD, Board Certified Physician replied 10 months ago

It depends on the cause, and you have to know.

No, you just don't start something, which could make the problem worse.

Hormone imbalance is the most common cause of this problem so you will need a sex hormone blood test panel, sHBG, thyroid studies and adrenal gland studies.

Also all routine labs and urinalysis, since liver and kidney problems can cause this.

Full pelvic exam, pap smear and ultraound to rule out uterine pathology such as fibroids, endomytriosis, etc.

Only then can a treatment be devised.

I would take this post to your doctor, even an endocrinologist might be needed.

OK, let me now if you have more quesiton.

Also, please click a positive rating on the rating scale. [This must be done manually]. In fact, a 5 rating squares me with just answer and allows me to provide prompt and accurate service to you, but does not increase your cost. And, I will be here for any follow up needed
