I have a bacteria infection with diarea and am taking Metronidazole for 4 days and it has not helped. It started to but now it is back and I don't know what to do now. Can you help me.
JA: Have you seen a doctor about this yet? What medications are you taking?
Customer: Yes I went to Urgent care last sunday and had test so she gave me the antibiotic and went to primary dr. on Wednesday.
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: No I'm pretty healthy. The only other meds I am taking are simvastatin and lorazepam.
JA: What medications do you take daily? Are you allergic to any medications?
Customer: Yes I'm allergic to tetracycline and some mycins. I take Simastatin and Lorazapam ( lorazepam as needed).

Thank You I am really worried.

I am sorry you have diarrhea.

have you tried anti-diarrhea medications like Imodium or prescription Lomotil to fight the diarrhea?

you may need to stop milk and gluten foods to help your diarrhea improve

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I have tried every thing and the antibiotic is not helping.

are you having water for stools?

or just soft stools? different people have different ideas of what "diarrhea" is

how old are you?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
No I don't want to switch to a phone call.
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I had water with the stool and now it is soft stool with water. I am 78.
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
They said it is a bacteria infection.
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I'm taking Metronidazole and it isn't helping.
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Are you still there?

have you tried to take two imodium pills up to 8 a day to help stop your diarrhea?

you should talk to your doctor about Lomotil

if your stools are soft stools now, that is better than watery stools and means you are getting better.

eating bananas can help some people tighten up their stools

stop milk and gluten and see if that helps too.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I tried Imodium but it didn't work. Even the antibiotic isn't helping. I will try the no gluten and bananas. Could this be serious if it doesn't stop?
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Dr. David, I am sorry I have to go but thank you for your help. ***@******.***

you could have IBS or irritable bowel syndrome

soft stool is usually not dangerous and usually doesn't lead to dehydration like watery stool can.
