MY WIFE HAS TAKEN IT UPON HERSELF TO LOSE WEIGHT AND THAT

Customer Question

MY WIFE HAS TAKEN IT UPON HERSELF TO LOSE WEIGHT AND THAT CONSISTS OF EATING ABOUT HALF OF WHAT SHE ATE BEFORE. SHE IS SCHEDULED FOR A COLENOSPITY TODAY AND SHE WAS GIVEN A BOX OF LAXATIVE WHICH SHE WAS TO START AT NOON. THEN SHE HAD A BOTTLE OF MIROLAX AND TWO BOTTLES OF GATORAID WHICH WERE TO BE MIXED TOGETHER AND SHE WAS TO BEGIN THIS AT 7:00 PM. IT IS NOW 4:00 AM AND SHE DOES NOT HAVE ANY URGES TO GO TO THE BATHROOM. IS THIS A PROBLEM OR NOT??
JA: Have you seen a doctor about this yet? What medications are you taking?

Hi,

Welcome to JA and thanks for this question. Im sorry to hear about your wife's situation. Actually sometimes the miralax may not start working until the morning pof the colonoscopy which means that she might start to have urges to go at around 7 AM and that is considered as normal. She should continue with the plan of using miralax and also use an enema if that has been prescribed for her. But the fact that she does not have the urge to go right now is NOT concerning at all, as i said sometimes it can take longer in some patients and they would usually start to pass stool early in the morning around 6- 7 AM and if she STILL does not pass stool at that time then she may need an enema before the colonoscopy so that the intestines are cleaned out. In that situation the colonoscopy would be delayed by an hour or two but it can still go ahead.
