Question about adequate calorie intake...
Question about adequate calorie intake to lose weight. I am 43. 6'3 225. I lift heavy weights 4 days a week for roughly 45 to 60 minutes. I have been losing some weight but wanted to make sure was because of working out and my calorie intake amd not something else. Also wondered ifpossibly im not taking in enough calories. I do feel tired and run down. I currently take in about 1800-2200 per day.

I see.

You should be taking in enough calories.

It takes 3500 calories to lose 1 pound (0.5 kg). That means cutting out 500 calories every day for 7 days. You can lose these 500 calories per day by eating fewer calories, by burning them through exercise, or both.

The total caloric intake should be broken down by percentage of macronutrient intake, as recommended by the United States Dietary Guidelines:

45 to 65 percent from carbohydrates
10 to 35 percent from protein
20 to 35 percent from fat

For males in your age range, you should take in round 2600 calories. However, if you are trying to lose weight, you should take in less.
