Have a slight burning sensation in back of throat,

Customer Question

Have a slight burning sensation in back of throat, lethargic, somewhat achy ear or ear pressure. I just turned 26 I drink rather often(4 times a week) or so for the past year and I use tobacco pouches. I drink a lot of coffee at work as well and have a poor diet. Main issue however is feeling weak, burning in back of throat, ear issue. A coworker said he had mono recently. So I believe it could be mono or gerd. Thoughts?

Hello Nick I'm Dr Chip

How long has this been going on?

Any fever?

Any swollen lymph nodes?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I haven't checked for a fever and don't have a way to check currently but no swollen lymph nodes to my knowledge and it's been going on for probably 4 or 5 days, just feel weak, headache on occasion, burning sensation in throat, somewhat hoarse and then ear pressure or pain

Doesn't sound like mono and GERD wouldn't give you lethargy

It could either be a viral pharyngitis or the flu either of which usually run their course in about 7 to 10 days.

For now I'd suggest oral probiotics and zinc lozenges to help for the time being

Please let me know if you need any more information

I'm a hypochondriac so could you rule out any sort of cancer at this point?
Expert:  Dr Chip (M.D.) replied 2 months ago.

I understand

No way would I consider any kind of cancer here
