Customer Question

My two daughters (ages 8 and 13) both have sore throats and low temps (96.2 and 97.4) should I be concerned?
JA: How long have you had the symptoms? Do you have a fever?
Customer: No fever - sore throat for a few days
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

Hello. Low temperatures are still considered normal. only temperatures over 100.4 are concerning. Many people errantly believe that they are abnormal, or don't respond the way the rest of humanity does to infections, but this has been proven false time and time again

the fact that your daughters dont' have temperatures makes Strep unlikely. if they have coughs it is even MORE unlikely to be strep. If they don't have outer neck pain, it is even further unlikely. between 92 and 98% of sore throats are caused by viruses.

How long do I wait before bringing them to the pediatrician?
Expert:  Dr. Captain replied 8 months ago.

I would wait until they have fevers (temps over 100.4) otherwise, just push fluids and rest.
