I am having leg cramps a night and last night was very painful and severe in my left leg
JA: What seems to make the symptoms worse or better? Have you noticed any swelling?
Customer: I had swollen ankles a couple of days ago. This is all new. I am 74 but very fit and healthy and leave a busy life.
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: Hypertension and sometimes kidney stones

Do you take any medications ? Some diuretics may cause low potassium which is a common cause of leg cramps

Other electrolyte abnormals ( calcium, magnesium ) can be related to leg cramps ..

If you had unusual activity ( prolonged standing / walking / climbing ) then muscle fatigue may lead to this problem

Taking added potassium often helps as may a magnesium supplement

Review of meds and other factors may be helpful
