Hello !

What is your question ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Hello....my question is...I have a discolored sort of numb tongue.
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

Hello again,

What part of the tongue feels numb?

Discolored how ? Whitish / cream colored / black / other ??

How long has this been going on ?

Do you have any trouble with reflux / heartburn / GERD ??

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

If whitish coating hard to brush off with toothbrush then you may have case of thrush ...

If thrush that is fungal infection ..treated with oral Nystatin or Duflucan ...

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Are you there? The tip feels numb, and my whole tongue is grayish black.
It happened briefly after I rinsed my mouth out with hydrogen peroxide for a infection on my tooth.
My lip swelled up like the size of a golf ball...thats gone now, but the numbness is still there.
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

Hello again,

Greyish black sounds like a probable fungal type cause for coating ...

See ENT or primary care doctor ...

I would advise Rx probably for course of Diflucan....

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

You are welcome to post picture ...

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

It sounds that you had severe dental infection ..were you on antibiotic for this ??

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I didn't answer that other question, it was three nights ago
no, I was trying to avoid seeing a doctor.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It happened so quickly after the peroxide I thought it was an allergic reaction...although I used it several times. I the past that is.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Oops, IN the past
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

Yes I understand but you need to be checked ...

I think that you know this !

Everyone dreads seeing a doctor ( even other doctors !!)

Unfortunately there is not an easy way around that however

I don't think allergy to peroxide but it is very strong and if you have open sore it can make it worse ( hydrogen peroxide kills bacteria but open cells such as a wound may be killed as well... .)

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

I know that you dread it but having doctor examine your mouth and tongue is needed at this point ... The grey/ black coating sounds like a fungal type infection ...

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

ENT specialist would be ideal but a primary care doctor is fine as a start to get the help that you need ...

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
What's my other option? hehe
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

Getting worse I'm afraid is other option !!! Yikes !!

Bad enough here !! Don't play around with it !!

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Worst case scenario?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
what will they do for me that I can't myself?
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

Dental infection gets worse -- you get septic -- infection to blood stream --- infection to heart ( = endocarditis ) ...then it may be fatal

I'm not saying such is inevitable ..no to that ... But you asked worst case scenario .....

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

Antibiotics ...you may need both antibacterial ( dental infection( and antifungal prescription for probable fungal tongue infection ...

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Thats why I don't see doctors!!!! hehehee
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

Yes I get that !!

We are less popular than IRS !! # ÷ )

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Well, you are definitely human.... I seriously LOLed at that.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Can I buy some OTC antibiotics....or can you prescribe me some?
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

My Mom tells me I'm human but others have disagreed ???

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

No , I'm afraid not --- site is for information and we can't prescribe to online customers --- you need face to face appointment with one of those awful doctors ...you can't really get OTC antibiotics ..there are prescribed meds ....it is a risk thing ....

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I never once anticipated a humorous conversation with a doctor....you guys are always too serious
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Dr. Phil promotes that his doctors can?
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

Sorry I must be losing my grip on my nasty demeanor ....

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I'll be at your office in the morning!
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

There may be some sites and some states that may allow limited prescribing but our state medical board does not allow it and DEA forbids online Rx of controlled substances

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
How can anyone abuse antibiotics?
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

It is not an abuse question with antibiotics but that general public does not know what they are doing ... It is very complicated ..( OK well many MDs may not either I guess !!)

You need specific diagnosis / type of bacteria / dose/ length of treatment / etc ....

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

I have to be offline for next bit here and will be go back in about 45 minutes to check in .... Sorry for any inconvenience ...I'll be back shortly

Best regards ***** ***** !

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
OK, you can sent me some in a secret place...(no one will know). Promise I won't tell.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Just kidding of course, I haven't had any bad doctors...a few questionable dentists....but Im just a chicken.
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

Ok well you need to find a good doctor my friend !! Get it checked out !!

Best regards!

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
See... doctors always make you wait!
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

Yes that is true !! Guilty there !

; )

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
lol, I can't believe you are back.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Where are you?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Im thinking California....
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

Yes it is getting late ....

Still have not changed my mind ....you need to see MD... Get the tongue

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

No East coast actually ....

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I had one more question...what is the BEST case scenario?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
WOW, are you a ER doc?
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

Best case is that it could resolve on its own

Your own immune system is your best defense even more than medicine ....

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Thats what I was hoping for...how long before I know its not going to?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
One more thing...my mouth is getting dry too.
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

If you get better progressively within a week then that would be a good indicator ....

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
My tongue has been discolored for a very long time, 2 years probably.
But not numb.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The discoloration is different, but still discolored.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I just took some advil.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It hurts.
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

Ok I think it is time to get the tongue checked ....

Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

Advil fine ...

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
What would you do?
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.

I would see an ENT ....

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I assume that means ears, nose and throat....But you gave me a week wutg sine Nystatin and Diflucan. :)
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
wutg sine....it's egyptian
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Thanks for your help....I'll consider it.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
One last question....why do you pay to talk to a doctor that tells you to go to a doctor?
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 1 year ago.
Hello again !
The idea of this service is to provide information . This may vary greatly from one person to another ....sometimes the best answer happens to be that you need a visit in person to a primary care doctor or specialist ...that is my recommendation on your case ... I hope to be helpful for you !
