Thanks for this question. Actually schwannoma is a benign tumor of the nerve or rather the 8th cranial nerve which is responsible for controlling the hearing. They are usually located inside the brain at the junction of the cerebellum and pons which are two portions of the brain. These can cause headaches and problems in hearing however are NOT fatal in nature. Common symptoms of Schwannoma are one-sided hearing loss and buzzing or ringing in the ear. Dizziness may also occur, although it is less common. If the tumor affects the facial nerve (the 7th cranial nerve, which is located next to the 8th cranial nerve), facial paralysis may occur. Other symptoms include difficulty in swallowing, impaired eye movement, taste disturbances, and unsteadiness. Usually they are treated by removing the tumor surgically however in some cases they can be treated with radiation.

However they are NOT malignant tumors and DO NOT spread to any other part of the brain. This is a BENIGN tumor
