hello. how are you? i was just looking up breath holding. i have hiccups multiple times during the day, and the onl effective way t stop them i found is to hold my breath. lately i've noticed that i do it whenever i burp and when i'm relaxed. i am worried this is becoming a habit or unconciosly an an adiction. thank you pleaseexcuse the spelling the meds im on give me double vision.
JA: What medications do you take daily? Are you allergic to any medications?
Customer: i havent noticed a serious reaction, but the meds are lamotrigene, pizotifen sertraline, phenytoin and leveteracitam. though they'll be weaning m off the phenytoin soon.
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: i' havent been given a concrete diagnosis yet i suffer seizures (a few types really.) i suffer with depression too. revently i was in hospital due to a really bad seizure. i dont remember anything about it though. sorry its taking so long!

This is Dr. David

sorry about the hiccups.

excessive stomach acid in your stomach can cause burping and hiccups.

you may need to change your diet to avoid foods which worsens stomach acid, spicy foods, fried foods, oily foods, alcohol, tomato sauces,

you may benefit from stomach acid reducing medications like maalox, mylanta, zantac or prilosec

holding your breath will not become an addiction.

if it helps you relax and stops your hiccups, it is ok
