I cut my big toe on a metal box when removing the box

Customer Question

I cut my big toe on a metal box when removing the box (normally installed) from my car.The cut is about 1.5 inches long and I can see the bone. I have cleaned & bandaged the wound. How will i know if it needs medical attention?

Hi Jane. If you can see tendon (the whitish strands that connect muscle to bone) or the bone itself, you definitely need to have the wound evaluated. This would be a high risk injury in terms of infection (possibly a deep one) and a poor functional outcome without proper care.
