Customer Question

I am a healthy 50 yr old female. I had a screening colonoscopy yesterday. My referring physician stated an endoscopy may be in order as my mom died of stomach cancer at age of 46. I hAve a health history of H Pylori and at least 2 episodes of epstein barr syndrome. The gastroenterology Dr stated that the above conditions did not Warrenton a screening endoscopy. Your thoughts?

This is Dr. David

at your age and with your family history, most GI doctors would do an upper endoscopy for you.

you can also ask your doctor to check your stool for blood

stomach cancers would tend to bleed and cause black tar like stool

and there is also blood antibody tests and stool antigen tests which can check for H Pylori in your stomach.

you can also try to get another opinion from another GI doctor as well.

let me know if you have questions.
