Customer Question

I am 62 years old. Male. Not overweight. About 180 cm. tall. Weigh 163 pounds. In decent condition as I walk quite a bit. Had a general check up about 2 years ago and nothing really wrong with me. Have excellent heart and slightly low blood pressure. Only condition I have is a "Tight bladder neck" which I take 10 mg. of "Vesicare" every day. Only side effect of this is I feel dry, but not a serious complaint. My breasts are large for a man and have been for many years. I did a lot of underwater diving as child which may have had an effect? Why I am writing is that generally I feel tired a lot. I have struggled with getting good sleep at night for many years including before I started feeling so tired a few years ago. I do get up to urinate about 3-4 times per night on average. I could increase the Vesicare to avoid getting up as much but I usually go back to sleep after getting up. I am not convinced my increased tiredness is a direct result of lack of sleep, but can't be sure. My wife and I eat every healthy meals well above average. I am not depressed, but do have a stressful job as a business owner. I drink coffee about 4 days per week to keep my energy level up. But, it bothers my bladder so I restrict to about 4 days per week. Wondering if you give me any suggestions.

This is Dr. David

you could have an enlarged prostate gland.

medications like Flomax or Rapaflo can help you empty your bladder better at night time and so you get up less

medications like Proscar or Avodart can help shrink your prostate a bit as well.

you should see a urologist to see if your prostate gland is enlarged

avoiding coffee and liquids after dinner can help you not urinate so much at night time.

you should get your thyroid hormone levels checked and you might need a sleep evaluation as well.

you should get your B12, iron, ferritin, vitamin D levels checked as well to check for causes for fatigue.

when was the last time you saw your primary care doctor for a full physical and blood testing panel?
