Customer Question

I am aware that I have all the textbook symptoms of diverticulitis, getting worse now. I have constant left lower quadrant pain.
Where do I begin to deal with this? It has been 9 years, but is starting to get unbearable. I'm a 65 female who is already eating lots of grains.
Is there any other options before surgery?

This assessment begins with a colonoscopy if you have not had one, which was due at age 50 then if clean, at age 60.

A ct scan can diagnose this condition, but not as well.

Colonoscopy rules out polyps and cancer as well.

Lots of grains in not necessarily helpful.
The key in the diet is soluble fiber:

peeled apples

stewed fruit

oat bran

ground and cooled flax seed

psycillium husk powder.
