Customer Question

I was diagnosed with hemochromatosis last year. I've read varying ideas about what the ideal ferritin level should be. When I was diagnosed, my ferritin was 217 and now it is down to 70. My current Doctor feels it should be under 50. I am in my 30s and very active. It is extremely difficult to get to phlebotomy once a week especially with the office only being open one day a week. What do you feel is an ideal ferritin level?

Thank you for your question.

The management guidelines suggest that the ferritin level should be maintained between 25-50.

So yours is a little on the higher side, although not too high.

Even if you can get it below 50, it is good enough.
