My mother had cirrhosis of the liver she just found out

Customer Question

My mother had cirrhosis of the liver she just found out recently. The hospital has drained her stomach twice in the last 2 months. They said she was to old for a transplant at 68 years old. What would be the life expectancy at this point ? Is there anything she can do to prolong her life ?

Hi there,
This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.
I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Sorry to hear that.

Advanced stage of cirrhosis will cause ascites or fluid accumulation.

The life expectancy is usually less than 3 years.

The life expectancy can be prolonged by optimizing cirrhosis medical treatment.

Diuretics, lactulose, Nadolol, diet consisting of branched chain amino acids will be helpful.
Best wishes,
It was my pleasure to help you today.
