QUESTION}my daughter thinks she might have gotten a parasite

Customer Question

QUESTION}my daughter thinks she might have gotten a parasite from a recent trip to Dominican Republic. She's had some diarrhea but no fever, no vomiting yet, stomach is not quite right but until last night (which is 1 week after her return) she hasn't severe abdominal pain or bloating. She went to urgent care office near her college campus on Wed March 16, they weren't sure what it was, assumed Travellers Diarrhea. The doctor there prescribed antibiotics, which she started Wednesday night. She had severe stomach ache last night (Thurs) which passed, then had bad headache and aching legs, also on Thursday night. I've made an appointment with an internist for next Tues, March 22 where she goes to college but we're curious if they can find intestinal parasite with one visit to Doctor. Getting her into a doctor is difficult due to her rigorous class schedule. Also, if it is just Travellers Diarrhea, how long would it take for the antibiotics to get control of it?

Hi, Thanks for your question. I'm Dr. Hasan and I'll try to help you. Is there any blood or mucus in stool? Is she better than before? Regards
