Customer Question

I recently went to the bathroom, and when I went, I found blood on my toilet paper. It remained the same for the next time I went to the bathroom as well. Following this, over the past week, I have been carefully monitoring my poop. Nothing though. And my fecal matter does not look red at all. When it happened, the blood looked bright red. I do not engage at all in anal sex, and never have. Do you think I need to go to the doctor?

Hi there,
This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.
I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Most likely cause is internal hemorrhoids causing painless bleeding.

Hard stool can cause this commonly.

However given that this is going on for a week a clinical evaluation is recommended.

Sometimes this can be a sign of inflammatory bowel disorder.
Best wishes,

I think there is a misunderstanding here. It happened once, followed by remnance from the first occurance during the second. After, I have continually monitored and found NO blood. None at all over the past week.

As well, I do not have hard stool.

Thanks for clarification.

Then this is likely not concerning.

Blood can come from an internal hemorrhoid which cannot be seen from outside.

Blood appears sometimes not always in hemorrhoid related condition.

Best wishes

Would it be wise to go to the doctor to rule out anything serious like bowel cancer?
Expert:  Dr Basu replied 1 year ago.

Cancer is very unlikely --so do not worry about that.
