I think i have GERD. I have suffered with stomach pain

Customer Question

I think i have GERD. I have suffered with stomach pain before. I am 51 years old white male.
I woke up two days ago feeling drained. In a short time I developed chest pain like a muscle pain and pressure in my neck that is painful. I was reading about GERD and found if I moved in different positions a lot of times the pain stopped. Drinking warm herbal tea soothes and relieves the pain temporarily. Just before bed the pain almost stopped totally, it would return slightly. I woke up at 530am today and it started again. I ate a banana, boiled egg with dry toast this morning. Can you tell me what I should think about doing?

Hi and thanks for the query.

New onset chest pain in an adult above 40 years of age should always arise suspicion towards acute coronary syndrome or heart conditions. I would suggest that you get an EKG done before you draw any conclusions about this being GERD or stomach related.

Once an EKG rules out heart conditions, GERD can be discussed and thought of as a cause.

Hope this helps.
