Customer Question

I had Scarlet Fever as an infant.
My grandmother described my symptoms which sounded more like Rheumatic Fever.
She said I was very ill, and whenever she picked me up I cried with joint pain.
I am now 64 years old. I have recently had symptoms of heart beat pauses, that when this occurs, I get a rattle in my lungs momentarily. If I cough it goes away. I also have experienced chest pain, not related to exertion. Squatting or bending whilst gardening seems to intiate the heart beat pauses. I consulted with a Dr, and he said it is nothing to be concerned with, he gets it too. I don't feel that this was a satisfactory answer.

Hi there,

This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

I do share your concerns.

Rheumatic heart disease usually will present with mitral valve disorder.

Other heart valves also can get affected.

The best way to check is to get heart echocardiogram.

Your doctor can order it.

or you can see a cardiologist.

Also you should get a 24 hour holter monitoring to check for irregular heart rhythms like atrial fibrillation.

Best wishes,

It was my pleasure to help you today.
