Customer Question

I am experiencing excessive bleeding every time I urinate. I have bladder stones to big to pass. My doc wants to perform surgery to remove the stones but won't because I'm taking Warfarin. I developed a blood
Clot about two months ago. I'm told that I must wait 3-6 months and stay off warfarin for a week. Fine. But the bleeding persists due, it is thought, to the stones tearing at my bladder or uninary track. I get this but the amount of bleeding is alarming. I am also on Flomax. Do you agree that surgery at this time is not possible? I am 72 years of age and otherwise in good health.
Thank you

Hi there,

This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

No I do not agree.

ESWL or shockwave lithotripsy can be tried to break down the stone in small pieces.

So that you can pass them through urination.

This procedure is minimally invasive and done by providing electric energy from outside the body.

This option should be discussed with your urologist at least.

Can be performed even on warfarin.

Or it can be peformed on heparin drip and then switch back to warfarin after procedure.

Best wishes,

It was my pleasure to help you today.
