Customer Question

I have had since this past Friday a significant decrease in my appetite and the other night got some pain in lower right abdomen. So tomorrow my doctor has ordered for me to have what he says the typical blood test for appendicitis. Do you have any idea
what blood test that could be like testing my White Blood Cells or what type of blood test. And if WBC test could my significant decrease in appetite could possibly show an elevation in my WBC count.

Dear customer,

Thanks for your question.

An infected and inflamed appendix will cause a high white blood cell count. However your doctor will confirm this diagnosis by an abdominal ultrasound and other imaging studies. The significant decrease in appetite may also be related to an infection and inflammation and may show as an increased white blood cell count.

Take care.
