Customer Question

I was recently diagnosed with pneumonia and have definitely been coughing up a lot of phlegm. The last time I did this I noticed a few little streaks of blood. Is this normal or something I should be worried about??

Coughing out phlegm with streaks of blood is normal with pneumonia.

I hope you have been put on an oral antibiotic to treat this.

If you have not been put on anything for this then you would require an oral antibiotic to treat this along with a chest x-ray if required.

If your symptoms persist or worsen in spite of being on the antibiotic for two to three days then you would likely require a change in the antibiotic.
