Bleeding like what you are having is most commonly caused by hemorrhoids (which usually causes painless bleeding) or anal fissure (which causes pain with bleeding).

Both these conditions are harmless in the vast majority of cases.

However as a rule, any person who has blood in stool or covering the stool must be examined to be examined to be sure that we rule out anything serious like cancer which is also potentially a cause that must be ruled out, even though it seems UNLIKELY in your case.
