This is Dr. David

for most kids when they swallow bones, the bones get digested in the stomach and any bones which doesn't get digested pass without problems through the GI system and out through the stool.

if he ate normally afterwards , then there is no blockage in the esophagus.

and food is going down normally

if you bring him to the ER, they might do some xrays, but they won't go down into the stomach to remove the bones

if it was 5 hours ago, the bone is already being digested in the small bowel and passing through the small

I don't think you have to bring him to the ER

I bet he will be fine

let me know if you have other questions.

Hi there,

This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Autistic child is not able to express the feelings and pain normally.

A chicken bone can get stuck in the stomach or small intestine causing obstruction and serious complications like bowel perforation

And he is complaining as well.

Hence a clinical evaluation in the ER is recommended to avoid any bowel perforation and potential complications.

Best wishes,

It was my pleasure to help you today.
