I have been dealing with herpes years now and my outbreaks

Customer Question

Hello ,I have been dealing with herpes for 8 years now and my outbreaks are so acute .I experience more than 10 outbreaks a year.I started taking suppressive therapy of 500mg valtrex ,I have been on that for a month but it makes no difference, the outbreaks seem to be increasing .should I increase the dose?

Dear customer,

Thanks for your question.

Basically the dosage of valacyclovir is 500 mg twice daily or 1 gram once daily in patients with normal immune function. However in patients with a history of 9 or fewer recurrences per year, the dosage is 500 mg once daily.

Therefore please consult your doctor about increasing the dose.

Take care.
