Customer Question
I was exposed to black...
I was exposed to black mold. I have removed the mold but my symptoms haven't completely gone away. I live in California and many of my friends that suffer from allergies are having problems because of the drought. I have read that once exposed to black mold, it takes months to recover and you also become very sensitive to the environment. Aspirin completely makes the symptoms go away. I have a slight tightening of my chest and if I work out I have a slight shorting of breath if I don't take the aspirin. I don't think taking stronger medicines will help or are needed. How long will I have these symptoms?

Hi there,

This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Some people are very sensitive to black mold than others.

Usually the symptoms should subside within 6 months or so if no further exposure expected.

Chest tightness and shortness of breath can be addressed effectively with a prescription oral inhaler.

Fluticasone ( Flovent) 110 mcg can be used twice daily for a month or so.

That will help with faster recovery.

Other causes like heart disease also should be ruled out with EKG, cardiac markers.

Best wishes,

It was my pleasure to help you today.

Thank you to the Physician who answered my question today. The answer was far more informative than what I got from the Physicians I saw in person for my problem.

You have been more help than you know. I seriously don't know what my sisters situation would be today if you had not gone above and beyond just answering my questions.
