Customer Question

I just had a blood test done, and I tested positive for ANA and had a 2.3 RNP auto antibody score. My absolute lymphocytes were also 0.90. I have had nerve and muscle pain primarily in the hands and feet but sometimes up to the legs and shoulders. I am losing weight (8 pounds since I weighed last month, no major changes in fact I have exercised less due to the pain). Does this sound like a definitive MCTD diagnosis, or should I have a specialists double check things.

Hi there,

This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

You do have muscle and nerve pain along with weight loss.

So you have symptoms.

Now your ANA and RNP also came back positive.

Although not definitive, they do raise the question of a connective tissue disorder.

This can be MCTD, or even lupus.

Hence, clinical evaluation by a rheumatologist is required.

The diagnostic criteria for connective tissue diseases like lupus need to meet symptoms, clinical findings, and lab tests as well.

Best wishes,

It was my pleasure to help you today.
