Customer Question

I am a 55 year old female. One month ago, while in the shower, I palpated a deep oblong lump in my armpit. It s not painful. I had a CBC with diff 2 weeks ago and my lympocytes were normal.I also had a normal mammogram earlier this year. Should I bee concerned. I have no signs of infection.

This is Dr. David

you most likely felt a normal or reactive lymph node swollen up temporarily to help fight off infections.

lymph nodes are normal parts of your body's immune system which can often swell up to help fight off infections.

that is good your mammogram was normal early this year.

you should continue with breast self exams once a month and seeing your doctor once a year for breast exams.

you shouldn't be worried about having felt a lymph node a month ago.

I am a cancer doctor.

you can get an ultrasound of your arm pit if you continue to worry, but I bet it will show normal findings.

let me know if you have questions.

I still have the lump
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.

how large is it?

is it about 1-2cm in size? that is a normal lymph node size.

it is normal to be able to feel normal lymph nodes in your arm pit.

This is approx 1 1/2 inch long, very deep and very hard
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.

you could be feeling a tendon deep in your arm pit.

ask your doctor for an arm pit ultrasound.

I bet it will be normal.
