Customer Question

Can over-the counter prilosec be taken along with prescription Dexilant for GERD pain? Can any other medication for pain be taken for an especially severe pain episode?

Thank you for your question.

Actually prilosec and dexilant belong to the same group of medications i.e. both are acid reducing proton pump inhibitors.

So these two are not supposed to be used together, it would be like taking the same medication or a similar medication twice.

So you should either take prilosec or dexilant and not both of these together.

You can combine zantac with dexilant as it belongs to a different group of acid suppressing medications i.e. it belongs to H2 receptor blockers.
