These symptoms are typically due to inflammation and infection of the gums, called gingivitis. While more severe cases may require antibiotics, you can try to use an anti-bacterial mouth rinse to help to control germs in the gums and promote healing. There are several on the market, although I generally recommend a chlorhexidine mouth rinse.
It also may be soothing to use a hydrogen peroxide mouth rinse.
If these interventions are not able to ease the symptoms, then it would be appropriate to see your dentist or doctor, as antibiotics may be necessary.
